Film In HDK-Valand’s Film programmes, students are trained to pursue their own cinematic ideas and given the opportunity to develop methods for exploring issues that are important to them through film. As a filmmaker, the camera is your most important tool. On 1 January 2020, two departments will merge to form the new department, HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design. Film and Photography will remain separate subjects, but will be work together in a dynamic interdisciplinary, artistic environment to facilitate new areas of research and develop new curriculum and pedagogic strategies.

Valand Academy (Swedish: Akademin Valand) is a school for film, photography, literary composition, and fine art at the University of Gothenburg in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was formed in 2012 through the merger of three formerly independent schools/departments at the University of Gothenburg.

In the end of spring 2019, seven students will graduate, aspiring to create innovative ways of storytelling and content in film and imagery. Kirsikka Paakkinen (b. 1985) is a Finnish director and screenwriter based in Rovaniemi. She is currently finishing her Film MA studies at Valand Academy, Gothenburg.
